A 16 year old Olivia sang at least three songs on an Australian programme called Boomeride (which was later renamed as The Kenny Dennis Show). This lasted the one series and brief snippets have been shown on Australian TV.
There also footage of Olivia singing a song called (perhaps) Papa, Oh Papa
in trousers also thought to be from this TV series (see pics).
Recently more information has come to light from the National Film And Sound Archive Of Australia. A 16mm black-and-white print acquired by the NSFA in 2018 from a member of the public has shown Newton-John appearing in Episode 7 of Boomeride. Older sister Rona’s series credit as Production Assistant is maybe how she came to appear. More information.
All songs were performed live and backed by a four-piece combo.
Broadcast by GTV-9 on 16 May 1965, the three Charles Marawood composed songs performed by Olivia are among her earliest-known surviving live musical performances. All songs remain unissued commercially and none were included on the accompanying soundtrack album released later that year.
The lyrics to some of these are quite mature for a 16 year old to be singing! Olivia's voice has the sweetness if not the strength of today. Nice false eyelashes too.
