Olivia was surprised by the Australian This Is Your Life programme whilst at a fundraiser for her cancer centre in Melbourne. In the past Olivia has turned down appearances on this programme but agreed to this as it was for the cancer centre fund (but she didn't know when or if the surprise would take place).
Many of Olivia's Australian friends turned up - John & Pat Farrar, David Campbell, Billy Thorpe, her sister Rona, brother Toby (from her father's second marriage) and her old teacher Mr Hogan who advised a 15 year old Olivia to pursue her singing career. There were also videotaped tributes from Cliff Richard, Britney Spears, Cher, John Travolta, President H W Bush, Nancy & James Chuda, Kylie Minogue, John Farnham and her daughter Chloe (who was ill back in America and couldn't attend).
Olivia's boyfriend of 8 years, Patrick McDermott sent a lovely message. He told how the whole world loved Olivia & that the animals loved Olivia. He added that if we could all be a little bit more like Olivia then we'd all be a bit better off.
Andy Williams, via videolink, told a story of meeting Olivia in Monte Carlo in the early 70s and Olivia introducing herself saying: "My name is Olivia and I'm going to be a star". Olivia mouths a couple of times "I did not!" - it certainly doesn't sound like the modest Olivia.
Former President (H W) Bush tells of a plane ride back in 1998 to Australia with Olivia and Rona. Olivia cracks up laughing whilst looking at Rona. President Bush also says he remembers Olivia campaigning for him to attend the Rio Summit on the environment (back in 1992).
During the show Olivia performs live with full band, I Honestly Love You and Let Me Be There plus a chorus of I Still Call Australia Home.
The show was very popular in Australia, watched by an estimated 1.4 million viewers and coming tenth in that weeks ratings.
