Grease - After They Were famous TV show

Hit film's stars still have that movie magic

By Martin Evans

GONE are the youthful looks and energy but Grease stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John still managed to conjure a bit of the 70s spirit.

The two stars of the smash hit movie musical teamed up at a Hollywood party and simply couldn’t resist the chance to belt out a classic number, Summer Lovin’, from the film favourite. It was the first time they had performed together since 1982 and an oulouker said: “They looked and sounded great together. If you closed your eyes you were back in Rydell High “

“It was great to hear them again and they hadn’t lost any of the old magic. They both obviously loved performing together.”

Grease was adapted from a stage musical and became a huge worldwide hit when it was released on the big screen in 1978. Set in an American high school, it tells the story of teenage love between supercool Danny Zuko and prissy do-gooder Sandy Olsen.

The film spawned a number of chart hits including You’re The One That I Want, Summer Lovin’ and Hopelessly Devoted To You.

In 1982 a sequel starring Michelle Pfieffer and Maxwell Caulfield was released but failed to have the spark of the original.

Travolta went on to star in hit movies Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty while Olivia Newton-John still records and makes films.
