Make time for Mum
Being a mum is one of the most stressful and demanding jobs in the world-but it’s also one of the most rewarding.
I really appreciate my mum. She’s an independent woman who encouraged her daughters to be self-reliant and not to depend on a man for anything I certainly followed that advice!
She’s also forward-thinking and encouraging. I remember how she let me share a flat in London with two friends when I was just 16. It demonstrated her belief in me and in the values she had instilled.
Mums should remember to take time out to enjoy themselves. Stop trying to be a supermum! The job doesn’t come with a built-in manual, so don’t be too hard on yourself, do the best you can and
Spoil yourself every now and then with a facial, massage or lunch with a friend.
Stop comparing yourself with other mums there are different ways of parenting.
Have a big day out with the kids-go somewhere you all love, and leave Dad behind to do the chores. All too often dads are associated with the good times.
Slow down and spend quality time with your children. According to family therapist Steve Biddulph, up to 70 per cent of discipline problems are caused by adults being in too much of a hurry.
Stop blaming yourself for your child’s failings. No-one is perfect. Focus on their good points and give yourself the credit!
What is Tai Chi?
Have you ever wondered what Tai Chi, that series of slow graceful movements, is all about? I was so curious I had to try it.
Tai Chi relies on specific breathing techniques and movements which relax and rejuvenate the body. It is believed Taoist monks practised it as far back as the 13th century.
Known as meditation in motion, this non-combative form of martial art helps to boost energy, calm the mind, promote healing, improve posture and balance muscles and the nervous system.
Millions of Chinese practise Tai Chi every day, believing it will improve spiritual and mental alertness. It’s usually performed outdoors to enhance the body’s energy flow.
Sweet Scents
I’ve found oils to be a great pick-me-up, especially I’m tired the day after a performance. I love having scent wafting through my home and often give gift packs of my favourite oils to friends for presents. They always go down a treat.
