Baby girl for Olivia
Olivia Newton- John, a mother for the first time at 37, has made some important decisions about baby daughter Chloe’s future. She intends to give Chloe every opportunity to spend as much time as possible in Australia. But, friends say, it is out of the question for Olivia and her husband, actor Matt Lattanzi, to leave the U.S, to live in Australia. “Any talk of Olivia moving to Australia on a permanent basis is very premature, ‘ says Rob Walker, a high-level official of the Roger Davies organisation, which manages Olivia. Her career is still rolling along full-steam in the U.S., while Matt is working hard at establishing himself as a film actor. “Olivia has to think of Matt’s future as well as Chloe’s,” says a close friend. “Can you imagine what Matt would do in Australia especially if they were living on Olivia’s farm at Ballina in NSW? No, Liv has no real options in this.”
Obviously over the next few years, she will bring Chloe to Australia as much as she can. Then in five or six years she could be in a position to move here, or, failing that, to have Chloe educated here.” Olivia’s first thought after the arrival of 3kg Chloe on January 17 was to ‘go home’ to Australia to show off her long-awaited baby. She and Matt had intended making the visit in March but Chloe arrived earlier than expected, so the happy couple put forward the flight to February. Her mother Irene Newton-John was ‘thrilled to bits’ at being a grandmother again she has seven other grandchildren and as soon as she heard the news she began making plans to fly to Los Angeles to be with Olivia. She had intended to be in L.A. for the birth, but Chloe’s premature arrival dashed that plan.
On hand to congratulate Olivia and Matt, 28, and to hold blue-eyed Chloe shortly after her birth, was Olivia’s older sister Rona. Throughout the delicate pregnancy, Rona had given tips to her sister on motherhood, babies and the practicalities of being a mum. Doctors had warned Olivia that, at 37, she could expect a long and exhausting labor. But she was alert during the birth and did not resort to pain-killing drugs. She says that holding her newborn child and just staring into Chloe’s huge blue eyes and touching her tiny toes and fingers was a moment she would never forget. “It was so special and even more wonderful because Matt was with me through everything, “ she says. Chloe is most unlikely to be an only child. The Lattanzis intend to enjoy her babyhood but Olivia says baby No. 2 is on the agenda in the not-too-distant future. If the second child is a boy he’ll be named Jesse.
