Olivia And Matt In The Middle Of Their Love Story

In their Malibu ranch, Olivia Newton-John and husband Matt Lattanzi take care of their animals. Olivia’s latest record “Soul Kiss” has just been released in France. Our interviewer, Dany Jucaud, has visited her in Los Angeles.
D.J : The rock’n’roll world isn’t well balanced. You seem to be out of this madness : why ?
Olivia : I’ve never been attracted neither to Hollywood craziness, nor over-exposure. I had a very simple and happy childhood. I’ve been raised by people who really have their feet on the ground. That helps. In Australia, where I started my career, there was no way you could get carried away about it, otherwise people firmly remind you who you really are !
D.J : Your house really looks like a zoo. When you walk, you’re always afraid to step on a cat. Where does this love for animals come from ?
Olivia : As a little child, my best friend was a dog. Maybe I was unconsciously deceived by humans.
D.J : You told me once that you’ve felt guilty for being successful for a long time…
Olivia : That is true, I thought it was unfair that some incredibly talented friends of mine didn’t have as much success as I have. I really wanted them to forgive me. But as time went by, I learned to handle this.
D.J : You haven’t been on stage for two years and half. Is it a choice?
Olivia : Absolutely. I love what I do. But I don’t really need the public’s approval to know who I am any more. I’m very happy with Matt, I feel really totally blessed.
D.J : You and Matt have been together for quite a long time now, already six years ! How is it to be together ?
Matt : It’s a dream! Olivia has a great sense of humor. Plus, we’re like best friends. Before Olivia, I had never lived with a woman. As I come from a ten-children family, I only had one goal : to be independent.
Olivia : We totally trust each other. That’s the secret.
D.J : Olivia is a big star. Matt, your career is only beginning. Isn’t frustrating sometimes ?
Matt : Not at all. It never bothered me. When Olivia has success, it is success for both of us.
Olivia : Matt has always been self-confident. It was like a fairy tale when we first met. I was the lead in a movie, he was my dance partner. It was love at first sight. But, unlike most of the other men, he behaved with me as he would have done with any other woman, not like with some unreachable person. That’s what I liked first.
D.J ; You’re singing, you’re dancing, you’re acting, you won awards. What do you miss ?
Olivia : A child. A lonely-getting-old popstar is so pathetic. I’d like to retire slowly, keep on writing songs, take care of my clothing boutique “Koala Blue” and most of all, take care of my family.
D.J : So, when will the child come ?
Olivia : By the end of February !
D.J : Why have you waited so long ?
Olivia : I wasn’t ready for it. If I have had a child when I was 20, I couldn’t have done all I’ve done so far. Now I know I am ready for it.
D.J : They say happy people have no special stories…
Olivia : It is true. Happiness is what happens in your heart. The biggest successes can’t - and won’t - replace love.
