Olivia gets physical in concert

CENTER STAGE

Australian, singer, songwriter, Olivia Newton-John entertained crowds of fans last Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Dee Events Center.

Olivia’s concert sponsored by the ASWSC came only one week after superstar Barry Manilow’s concert.

Both of Olivia’s concerts were filmed for future television use by HBO, and it was the first time any concert had been filmed in Utah.

Newton-John performed with special guest jazz musician Tom Scott, who warmed up the audience for twenty minutes prior to the concert with songs from his new “Desire.” album

Newton-John fans were thoroughly entertained as she sang songs from her past such as, “Have You Never Been Mellow,” “If You Love Me, Let Me Know,” and many other of her former hits that have made her famous. She also entertained the audience with tunes from both of her movies “Xanadu,” and the box office smash of 1978, “Grease.”

Newton-John made three quick costume changes during the evening, so quick that her absence was hardly noticed by the crowd.

During one costume changes a white screen came down from above the stage that showed Newton-John swimming in the ocean with dolphins as “The Dolphin Song,” a song she wrote played in the background.

When she returned she told the crowd that swimming with the dolphins had been an incredible experience. She then expressed her concern for the dolphins and other endangered species and encouraged the audience to show the same kind of concern.

For her final costume change, Olivia came on stage wearing white shorts and a sweat-shirt singing her hit “Physical.”

She then got the crowd involved as she told them to sing the chorus with her. The fans then came to their feet and belted out “Lets get Physical.”

Newton-John concluded her performance by singing her hit love song “I Honestly Love You,” and then waved goodbye to the many fans who had come to see her outstanding performance.
