POP/Rocky met Olivia Newton-John in Los Angeles to receive the Gold Smurf (for Favorite Movie Actress) and the Silver Smurf (for runner-up as a singer). We saw a whole new Olivia!
At first glance, we didn’t even recognize Olivia Newton-John. It wasn’t the sexy blonde from California who greeted POP/Rocky, but a sporty and mature Livvy with a radiant smile and shining eyes.
Her blonde curls have given way to a cheeky short haircut. She’s wearing a gray-green outfit, fashionable riding breeches, ankle boots, and a dark leather jacket.
Olivia is delicately tanned by the California sun and full of life. She poses with the POP/Rocky Smurfs for the photographer.
Olivia, please tell all your fans in Germany how happy I am about these two awards.
Olivia: The figures are really adorable. Do you know what? I’m going to put them up in my new ranch in Malibu. That’s a good idea.
And what does Olivia do with the many other awards she has won over the years?
Olivia: “You almost embarrass me. But I have a special room where I keep the trophies from all over the world. It’s getting more and more crowded now. If I scattered them around the house, people would think I was trying to show them off”, she added modestly.
Does the new hairstyle mean something? Is a new film role perhaps in the works? After all, Nastassja Kinski’s long hair from this year fell victim to the scissors.
“No, no”, Olivia explains. “In fact, I’m still actively looking for a suitable script. My hair had to be cut because it was damaged during filming. Now I have short hair and my natural color. You see the completely real Olivia here”.
Olivia tells us about her new image: “I don’t want to portray a pretty girl. My next film role should finally show me as a completely grown-up.”
Should it be a musical? If she had the opportunity to sing and dance, “that would be great”, says Olivia, “but it’s not a requirement. Looking for a good script is like choosing songs; when you hear the song, you know immediately whether it’s it or not. Many good films are made in Germany. Maybe a German director has a brilliant idea?” Olivia asks herself.
Even if Olivia is not planning a tour at the moment she’s not just sitting around doing nothing. She’s working with renowned producer John Farrar on a new LP, which is due out in July. Four compositions are already in place, and I’m trying to write some myself, Livvy tells us.
Otherwise, says Olivia almost shyly, “I try to lead a normal life. The other day I spent a whole day in the kitchen and actually baked the first cake of my life. I would never have thought that I would”.
Where did the domesticity come from so suddenly? Is Olivia in love?
The answer is a happy laugh. You can guess (?), but everything else will remain my secret. As we have heard, Livvy has a young dancer from the film Xanadu in her heart. So it is no wonder Olivia is motivated to work on her own dance skills. Olivia goes to private dance class every day for an hour.
I was sure I’d be able to do it as well as the pros in Xanadu. But every time I saw myself in Xanadu, I was frustrated by my lack of technique. Now I’m training hard. And on top of that, Olivia Newton-John has certainly recovered after several tough challenges.
