Translation from Dutch:

Musical films seem to be back in style. Although things went a bit quiet on the musical front after Grease, they're set to be a resurgence in theaters in the coming months. Not only Neil Diamond's The Jazz Singer is in production, but also the Village People's Can't Stop the Music. But for now, everyone is eagerly awaiting Xanadu, Olivia Newton John's second feature film...

When Olivia Newton-John made Grease, the most successful musical of all time, two years ago, everyone immediately expected a new film from her. But Olivia was in no hurry. She took her time.

Of course, after Grease, she received dozens of offers. Good and bad. But she didn't want to rush anything, because a mistake could have been fatal for her future career. For months, she carefully studied all the offers she received. And her patience was rewarded. She chose Xanadu, a film set in a fantasy discotheque.

PARTNER

Her partner in that film is 68-year-old Gene Kelly, who last made a film twenty years ago. Gene is full of praise. Olivia is a wonderful girl. She's not only incredibly kind but also very intelligent, he says, adding with a smile: I wish I was thirty years younger...

Lee Kramer, Olivia's ex-boyfriend and producer of Xanadu, wholeheartedly agrees. It's a pleasure to work with her, he says. Olivia is never in a bad mood, she never really gets angry or annoying.

Despite this, Lee and Olivia's relationship is over. It's not good if you have to mix business and personal interests, Lee explains. That's why Olivia and I have decided to continue only on a business level. But that doesn't mean we're no longer good friends.

TV SPECIAL

Exactly one year ago, Olivia was mentally and physically exhausted. I was a wreck, she admits. I was overwrought and had to calm down for a few months. I managed to do that on my farm. I saw absolutely no one, only my animals. But the silence and the solitude did me a world of good. I feel like I've been reborn now.

Since we started filming Xanadu in September '79, I've been bursting with energy. It's like I can't get tired at all.

Immediately after filming, we started work on a new TV special that's currently airing in America. There's a small chance that this film will also come to Europe soon.

Moreover, I'm in the recording studio from morning to night putting the finishing touches on a new LP. So I'm very busy and hope everything goes well. Anyway... for me, "Xanadu" is ten times better than "Grease". I hope my fans agree with me.
