Hollywood Nights

Translation from Dutch:

Studio in, studio out. Working under hot lights, late into the night. Fiddle with your hair, your makeup. A new costume after every take. And always chasing, rushing, being beautiful, laughing… That’s the daily life of Olivia Newton-John.

Clothing designers and coffee ladies can probably tell you more about the person behind those sky-blue eyes than any biography of Olivia Newton-John. Because they are the people who see the blonde English/Australian more hours a day than Olivia herself sees her bed, or her beautiful ranch in the Hollywood hills.

Olivia Newton-John is a STAR, with a capital “S,” and when you’re a star, you’re no longer your own boss, and no matter how fat your bank account may be, you can rarely do what you want!

A few weeks ago, Olivia spent almost all her time in the television studios of Century City, California, filming the fantastic show about the blonde that America can’t get enough of. And that she’s a top-notch singer, dancer, actress, and model is proven by the results of days of rehearsals and dressing up in the archives of major film companies: an hour-long show titled “Hollywood Nights,” the photos of which were captured by Popfoto.

That she’s been working towards being a star since she was fifteen (when she won a prize at school in Australia and earned a trip to England, which started it all) was also clearly evident in Olivia’s exhausting show. Because through “cabaret” (jokes with TV personality Ted Knight), “dance” (with Gene Kelly, one of her co-stars in the film “Xanadu”) and of course singing (in duets with celebrities such as Elton John, Cliff Richard, Andy Gibb, Karen Carpenter, Peaches, Tina Turner, and Toni Tenille) came the highlight of the whole event: Olivia appeared in her original costumes, dressed as famous women from Hollywood film history, and showed she’s also a fantastic model. And that was just one part of Olivia’s exciting life.

Photo captions: Dressed in the original costumes from old films, Olivia became Barbarella, the space girl, and appeared in the most famous outfit by German actress Marlene Dietrich. This is Irma la Douce, from the film, and Olivia under the wig! Olivia as Helen of Troy, a woman from the distant past who caused a whole war.
