Olivia Newton-John's Totally Hot

Olivia Newton-John’s soft voice and John Farrar’s light arrange ments combine for a charming album (MCA 3067) of easy-listening country-rock.

There is little here to make the listener sit up and take notice, but little, too, that will offend. The songs are catchy, the backup band is solid and Newton-John is in good humor throughout. Especially appealing is the hit, “A Little More Love,” a pleasant song about the frustrations of love that features an edgy vocal and a slashing guitar.

Newton-John also has a good time with the cute “Talk to Me,” the driving “Deeper Than the Night” and the countryfied “Dancin’ Round and Round” but saves her best effort for a dynamite remake of Stevie Winwood’s classic “Gimme Some Lovin’.”

The album has some slow spots to be sure “Totally Hot” and “Borrowed Time” are not suited to Newton-John’s thin voice - but not many songs are.
