Olivia Participates in Live Broadcast

LOS ANGELES MCA recording artist Olivia Newton-John took part in the first ever satellite radio broadcast between Australia and the United States as KWIZ in Santa Ana, Calif., and 2GZ in Orange, New South Wales, traded half hours of live programming.

According to KWIZ station manager Pat Michaels, the “great radio exchange” was part of the sister cities program between Orange, Australia and Orange, Calif. Special guests at the KWIZ studios also included Australian Consul General Harold Marshall and Skip Reichenberger, southwest area sales manager for Quantas Airways.

For the first half hour of the March 23 broadcast, southern Californians heard the Peter Graham Show on 2GZ. complete with Australian news and commercials for Tulip Margarine and New Idea Magazine. Then, during the second half hour, KWIZ’s Charlie Fox program was beamed 22.500 miles across the Pacific Ocean, complete with American commercials and Ms. Newton-John as his studio guest.
