Olivia charms large crowd

Article and Photo by Lynn Tolleson

Rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of concert-goers attending the performance of Olivia Newton-John and Paul Williams last Monday evening when the LSU Assembly Center hosted a near capacity crowd for the 8 PM performance.

Turn outs such as this are common when big-name performers appear in this area. Ms. Newton-John expressed great pleasure when more than once her songs were received with standing ovations.

Ms. Newton-John stated that this performance, which was the second from the last in their six-week tour, was greeted by the most enthusiastic crowd to date.

In contrast to the soft voice tones and moods prevalent in Ms. Newton -John’s recordings, this performance sparkled with a variety of range and intensity as the charismatic lady held the crowd spellbound.

Olivia Newton-John shared the stage with Paul Williams who is revered by many as one of the most talented song writers of this generation. Williams, who jokingly referred to himself as the “Pillsbury dough-boy look-alike,” sang his own songs with such intensity and feeling that the crowd became totally silent following the moods he vocalized.

We live only minutes from showplace of the best talent in the world. Enjoy the talent offered and meet your neighbors at the LSU Assembly Center.
