Olivia Newton-John; A Lovely Lady
Olivia Newton-John, female vocalist of the year, enchanted the first sell-out crowd in the history of the Coliseum Feb. 26.
The crowd of more than 8,300 was the largest turn-out ever for a single performer appearing at SFA.
From the moment the vivacious blond pranced onto the stage, following the opening act by Gene Cotton of Nashville, the audience never took their eyes from her. For over an hour Olivia held the hearts of every male, and probably every female, as she sang her best-loved oldies
and several tunes from her newest album. Livvy
expressed astonishment at the warm Texas welcome she received. After singing along with her in The River's Too Wide
the enthusiastic audience gave her repeated standing ovations.
Closing her performance with "Have You Never Been Mel-low," Olivia capped-off the evening with the song everyone had been waiting to hear.
Fans who waited to see her off were rewarded by having their pretty idol wave from the bus window as she left.
A profit of approximately $7,000 was earned by the committee of 75 members who worked as stage crew, security and publicity for the concert. The money went into the committee's revolving budget to help bring other performers to SFA.
