Olivia Newton-John Is No Millionairess, But Future Looks Bright

Q: May we have some background on that very beautiful singer from Australia, Olivia Newton-John, who recently won four American Music Awards? -Joseph Ryan, Mineola, N.Y.
And: Is Olivia Newton-John the wife or sister of Elton John? Diana Leeder, Renton, Wash.
A: Neither. Apart from both being super-singing-stars, the Johns are unrelated. He’s a loner, a swinging millionaire bachelor who says he’s without a home sweet home, family ties or any special love.
Olivia is also unmarried but no millionairess. However, you can wager that she will be one if her career continues to roll in high gear and her genuine gentleness isn’t toughened by the glowing paeans of praise pasted in her scrapbook.
Ms. Newton-John was entered in a local theater contest in her native Australia at the looked most like Hayley Mills. By 14, together with three other young school mates, she had organized a singing group called the Sol Four. After winning a trip to London in another contest, Olivia and a girl named Pat Carroll formed a double act, singing and dancing in pubs and and graduating to BBC television.
In ‘72 appearing as a regular on the popular BBC-TV series, “It’s Cliff Richard.” Olivia was voted best British girl singer for the second successive year. Her first major television appearance in the states was on the Dean Martin Show, after which she toured England and the continent. Earlier this year she toured the U.S., making personal appearances in plush supperclubs all the way from London’s Savoy Hotel to the Diplomat in Hollywood, Fla.
In any country she’s still the hottest singer within hearing distance.
