Olivia was a hit! Jan 18 1975 concert review

Olivia Newton-John brought a refreshing new look to USU concerts Saturday night, smiling, dancing and singing her songs to over 6,000 people who attended her performance.

Buzz Thurber, Cultural VP, said the concert was a huge financial success, and his office is in the best shape it has ever been. And judging from the audience reaction, the concert was an entertainment success too. Olivia (Miss Newton, Miss John??) sang two encores in response.

Backstage before the concert, Olivia said she really enjoyed performing in Utah because of the absence of smoke. “I felt like I could sing clearer here,” she said.

She acknowledged that her rise to fame has been fast, “if one considers 1971 to 1974 as fast.” She said that she hopes both Pop and Country will benefit from her style of music by trying to sing a good selection of both in each concert.

Her band left something to be desired, though, and didn’t seem to share Olivia’s excitement. They failed to get into their music and loosen up.

Editor, Student Life:

After watching a lady like Olivia Newton John I can’t help but write and say how refreshing it was to see that feminine and that lovely of a woman on this campus.

She was surely a different breed of woman than the sometimes foul-mouthed girl we see so often around here, clad in levis, ski parka and mountain boots.

Those who attended the concert, know what I mean.
