If You Love Me Let Me Know album review
The late Jim Croce’s swamping of U.S. music awards from limey Elton John was roundaboutly vindicated by Australia’s Olivia Newton-John copping best femme C&W vocalist Grammy for “Let Me Be There,” writ by John Rostill and consciously xeroxed by him for ON-J on IF YOU LOVE ME LET ME KNOW (MCA-411).
If there is a patent ON-J sound, then look for “The River’s Too Wide” off this LP to be the next single, though God knows there’s enough hooks on this record to last a year - Dr. Hook’s “You Ain’t Got The Right,” Alan Hawkshaw’s “Country Girl,” “Free The People,” Gerry Rafferty’s “Mary Skeffington”; God only knows who this puffy version of the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” is aimed at, though.
