Olivia Newton-John on Engelbert Humperdinck's show

IT’S swoon time, girls! The pulse rate will be speeding, the ticker fluttering, and there’ll be a great sighing and sobbing tonight because Engelbert Humperdinck stars in his -own show… but it will be his last British TV appearance for at least six months.

Engel stars in ATV’s excellent “Saturday Variety” series in his show called simply “Engelbert”-on STV at 9.40, when his guests include comedian Leslie Crowther, singer Olivia Newton-John, Los Indianas, and Gilbert O’Sullivan.

Engelbert’s disappearance from the British showbiz scene is because of a coast-to-coast tour of America, making concert and nightclub appearances. In tonight’s show he sings several solos, including “Without You,” “Welcome to My World,” “Lady, of the Night,” and “What Have They Done to My Song, Ma?” in which he turns in a few surprise impersonations.

The delectable Olivia sings the wonderfully evocative Jacques Brel number “If We Only Have Love,” and Leslie Crowther does a pretty funny impersonation of David Bowie and other popsters.
