Olivia Led The Way For Girls Like Oz

Emotional Kylie on Grease fave's inspiration

KYLIE MINOGUE is to give one of her most moving interviews in tribute to fellow Aussie OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN.

She is sitting down with Netflix for a special about the Grease great, who died of cancer four years ago, and was her inspiration.

Kylie released her own Netflix special in May, when she bravely told she had a second cancer diagnosis in 2021, and reflected on her record-breaking career.

Of the new interview, a source said: “Kylie wanted be in the film because of how much Olivia meant to her from a very early age.”

“She cites Olivia as being the proof that girls living in Australia can go out and fulfil their dreams.”

“Of course, after she found fame, Olivia was a guiding voice and support, and that meant so much to Kylie. The pair also had their own journeys with breast cancer, and there are moving moments when Kylie reflects on Olivia’s inspiration and bravery. It is very emotional for Kylie still still and is probably one of her most deeply moving interviews to date.”

The pair appeared alongside each other on on the Wogan chat show in 1989, with Olivia tipping Kylie to make it to the top.

Asked if she had any advice for her, Olivia replied: “It seems like she knows what she is doing and she has got her feet on the ground.”

“She’s got acting and singing, so she’s very fortunate that she’s good in both areas and she can continue in either area she wants to.”

Reflecting on her love of the late singer and actress in BBC series Reel Stories, Kylie told DERMOT O’LEARY: “Honestly, that is who I wanted to be, and then I got to kind of follow in her footsteps in real life.”

The currently unnamed Netflix project is also expected to feature members of Olivia’s family, including her daughter Chloe, and her Grease co-star JOHN TRAVOLTA.

It is being directed by Oscar nominee NICOLE NEWNHAM and produced by R.J. Cutler’s This Machine the team behind documentaries Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry and Elton John: Never Too Late.

It sounds like the perfect tribute.
