Olivia Newton-John hitting a high note
Olivia Newton-John, will be in the song Date To Dream with legend John Farnham at the opening ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, says that she is mentally and emotionally more ready than ever to resume full time her singing and acting career.
“My US tour last year, my first since 1983, helped me to realise that things are opening up for me and I couldn’t be more pleased,” she says, Her many fans around the world will be looking forward to Olivia’s new CD, featuring live performances from her 1999 tour titled One Woman’s Live Journey.
Olivia also plans to release a retrospective CD based set in in 2001 featuring hits, rare B-sides and possibly some new songs, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her first hit, If Not For You. And this year she will be releasing a Christmas CD, sharing the spotlight with country singer Vince Gill with whom she will sing a duet, as well as performing solo songs.
With the music front looking very good for the Australian star, Olivia also has plans for the cinema. Her latest film, Sordid Lives, is currently playing in various film festivals across the United States and will receive wider release in January 2001. In the film, which is an adaptation of a popular stage play, Olivia plays an ex-criminal turned bar singer. Featuring an ensemble cast, including the acclaimed Bean Bridges, it is Olivia’s first major film role since Xanadu and Two Of A Kind in the 1980s.
Her career and life may be moving forward, but she she also finds time to talk about her recovery from breast cancer in 1992, offering support to women stricken by the same illness. “Women, come up to me, wherever I am, and tell me about their ow battle,” she says.
